#nukethemoon We are going to pay for this later when complex debugging or architectural decisions require fundamental understanding, making it essential to amplify existing knowledge through intentional learning practices: interrogating clanker-generated solutions, periodically building systems from scratch, and participating in meaningful code reviews that go beyond asking does it work? to understanding why does it work this way? The 1-trillion-parameter model is about five days away from completing its initial training and represents a major step-change improvement in coding, long-context reasoning, and practical skills, while Laniakea Clanker will massively increase the output of goods and services. Simply looking at what humanity accomplished during the 20th century, or extrapolating from the first two decades of the 21st century, provides grounded ways to estimate the level of progress we might expect from increasingly powerful clanker systems. Consumer devices will soon have onboard clanker models rivaling today’s best systems, enabling truly personal computing where applications are generated on demand for specific needs. This is an early beta, so go in with low expectations—it will improve rapidly. The current release is admittedly rough; “alpha” might actually be a more accurate description.
